Karl Marx – Quote

“Catch a man a fish, and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish, and you ruin a wonderful business opportunity.” Karl Marx

Business opportunity – Interpretation

This is one of the most famous quote about business. I heard it for the first time when I was studying business at university.

People often wants to eat the fish rather than spending the time to catch it. You do not expect going to the restaurant helping the chef to catch the fish, help him to cook the food and finally the chef asking you to pay for the service. You expect to go there to have a relaxing time outside work where you order what you love to eat and where you just wait for the dish to be ready. And, In exchange you pay for the service and product provided by the restaurant.

In fact, we are all looking to improve our life and the more we improve our comfort, the more services or products we need. Thus the more a person is willing to improve his comfort, the more opportunities that person would give us to start a business. A wealthy person would require a driver, a cleaner, a personal teacher… A larger company usually requires consultant to provide services to the company, for example, a social media consultant that could help the company to growth their customer base.

So, it is important to find what they are looking at improving and give them what they want. And that gives everyone of us the opportunity to start a business.
