Quote – Biggest Motivation

“My biggest motivation? Just to keep challenging myself. I see life almost like one long University education that I never had — every day I’m learning something new.” – Richard Branson

Interpretation

What most people think

Most people study after high school aiming to get a degree in order to get a better job. After being awarded from that degree, they are convinced that it will help them to get a job and stay competitive in the job market over time. Same applies for a business owner managing a company without making any change in the process because that is how he learned when he started. But unfortunately, life does not work like that.

How important challenges are in life

Life is full of challenges, at every part of our life, we have to figure out ways to overcome those challenges. The first big challenge for a new born is to start walking and says his first words. It takes time, but at some point he figure out a way to overcome those first challenges. Every day there is a challenge, no matter how big or small the challenge is, we can always improve ourselves.

What everyone should do:

Richard Branson is the best example of all, without having a degree he found his path to success and continue to challenge himself every day. It does not matter if you have a degree or not if you are successful or not, what matter is that you continue to study and challenge yourself every day to be a better you.

How to set challenges to achieve your biggest motivation:

Setting challenges will help you to progress in your career no matter what you plan to become. Monthly challenge is what works for me. Setting a challenge at the beginning of the month and do everything possible to achieve this challenge.

As an example, I will be giving you my current monthly challenge to explain how I set my monthly challenges.

My current monthly challenge is:

  • read 1 book
  • write 1 book summary (coming next week)
  • post 30 quotes, one every day on twitter to keep you guys motivated (https://twitter.com/love_startups)
  • achieve 1800 followers on twitter

Notice that I have used a number for each of the challenges. To be able to track my progress and make sure I achieve those goals. Without numbers, it is really hard to track your progress as you have no way to know if you achieved your goals at the end of the month.

The more challenge you set and achieve the more motivated you will be. Do not try to aim a high number that you have no possibility to achieve. Start an easy challenge the first month, and keep increasing every month. That will help you get use to challenges.

Feel free to write a comment and give your thought on how you set challenges and to overcome them.
